7 Ways Time Management Can Help on and off the Road

A question that often comes up in my Orlando traffic safety classes: Do you feel like joy is harder to come by as you get older?
Adulting piles on responsibilities. Somewhere along the way, fun starts getting scheduled, skipped, or shoved aside. We chase quick dopamine hits—scrolling, speeding, snacking—just to feel something instead of making space for the things that genuinely brings us joy.

So here’s your summer check-in: Are you filling your time with what matters—or just filling it with what you think you're supposed to?
That’s exactly why I created the Declutter Your Time email series—to help you carve out space now, so you can enjoy more now and in the future.
It also reminds me of one of my favorite FDOT campaigns: Embrace the Space. On the road, creating space can save your life. And in life, it can save your sanity.
Here’s how space helps behind the wheel:
Prevents collisions with more time to react
Reduces stress and tailgating tension
Improves focus and visibility
Makes emergency maneuvers possible
And here’s how the same mindset helps off the road:
Less stress when your schedule isn’t packed wall-to-wall
More focus when you’re not constantly shifting gears
More energy for what really matters next
Whether it's the road, your routine, or your house, space gives you breathing room, safety, and clarity.
So... how will you create and protect that space this summer?
